Time Card Networks — clocking in only from the store
Employees → Time Card Networks decides where staff are allowed to clock in and out from. Each store's internet connection has its own address (an IP address, a number like 71.190.10.20). Add a store's address here and clock in/out works only from inside that store — not from a phone at home.
It also tells SightHub which store a punch came from: every punch is recorded against the store whose network it came from.
Is it switched on?
The badge at the top right says which:
- Restricted to these networks (green) — clock in/out is accepted only from the addresses listed below.
- Not restricted — punches allowed from anywhere (grey) — there is no active address yet. An amber note under the header says the same.
The restriction turns on by itself as soon as there is at least one active address, and off again if the last one is paused or removed.
Under the badge: Your IP — the address of the computer you are using right now — and, if it already belongs to a store, which one (resolves to store name).
Adding a store's network
Do this from a computer inside the store, so the address you see is the store's.
- Open Employees → Time Card Networks.
- Find the store's card and press Add network.
- In IP address or range, type the address — or click the blue address under the field (The computer you are on right now is ...) to fill it in. Use that shortcut only when you are physically in that store.
- Add a Label if it helps, for example Front desk router.
- Press Add.
A store can have several addresses, for example a main line and a backup line.
A range covers a whole block of addresses at once: 71.190.10.0/24 means every address from 71.190.10.0 to 71.190.10.255. Your internet provider or IT person will know if you need one.
Pausing or removing an address
Each address has a switch: Active or Paused. Pausing stops it being accepted without deleting it — handy while a store changes internet provider.
The bin removes it for good, after Remove address?. Punches already recorded keep their store.
A store card with no addresses says No networks — punches from this store are not recognised. Stores that are switched off show faded with an inactive store tag.
Rules
- One address, one store. The same address cannot be given to two stores.
- An exact address wins over a range if both match.
- Never add the server's or a proxy's address. Every punch would then look as if it came from that store.
Good to know
- Turning it on affects everyone at once. The moment the first address is active, staff at every other store can no longer punch until their store's address is added too. Add all stores' addresses before relying on it — or add them one after another on the same day.
- Store internet addresses can change. If a whole store suddenly cannot clock in, check whether the store's address is still the one listed here (open this page from the store and compare Your IP).
- A refused punch gives no clear reason. On the Clock In/Out panel a punch refused because of the network shows the same Credentials are incorrect message as a wrong password. If someone is sure of their password, check this page.
- Stopping one person punching is done on the Time Card tab with Freeze, not here — see Employees.
